Please don't be shy...This is a chance to tell your story to your classmates and get a response.  You can also send individual messages in the Message Center under MEMBER FUNCTIONS on the Home Page.

As for me, I have just moved into a new home in Cave Creek, Arizona, after living in Tucson for almost all of my life.  Fortunately, the desert here looks a lot like Tucson's desert.  I certainly feel like a fish out of water.  The reason for the move was to be closer to my younger son and his growing family.  I miss Tucson, and yet I know this is where I need to be.  Anyone else from THS live in Cave Creek or Carefree?

Like so many others, my best memories of THS are of "the band" and band was great because of Mr. Steele.   Looking back I don't know how he kept his sanity or patience with us! He changed the lives of so many for the better.  I have talked to classmates who say they only stayed in school because of band,  others went on to build their entire careers around music.

Did you see the publicity some college recently got for their half-time show depicting Michael Jackson doing the moon walk?  Fifity years ago our shows had us doing those moving figures  and so much more...  firing canons, twirling carousels (Have YOUR knees recovered yet?), etc.

His abilities as a Band Director were surpassed by his ability to create a Band Family.  We knew he cared about us and unbelievably, after so many years and students, remembered us!

Job well done, Mr. Steele.  Rest in Peace.

HOPEFULLY I'll be able to be there.  Mr.  Steele was a  great director.  Perhaps  because of our  band shows we were prepared  to play  under Jack Lee  at the Uof A.  I sure don't see  shows like we put on now.  Pat Dent

I had the great pleasure of working with Mr. Steele when I returned to Tucson High as a faculty member.  We had a wonderful relationship as I worked with the songleaders and twirlers and he incorporated them into the half time shows.  And my brother had the honor of being in the band and yes, he prepared his band members well to be able to join the UA band under Jack Lee which my brother enjoyed doing but not as much as he did being in the "Marching 100."  Good bye my friend!  CeCe Hall

It was a pleasure to have been a part of Mr. Steele's Marching 100.  He made everyone proud to be a Badger.  Rest In Peace.

I heard from many classmates unable to attend Mr. Steele's Celebration of Life...and it truly was a Celebration!  Memories and stories from his many old friends had everyone laughing. The music provided by a trio inluding Trent Kynaston ('64) went from heartbreaking ("Just A Closer Walk With Thee") to rollicking ("Saints Go Marching In").  Mr. Steele must have loved it!

You're absolutely right, Marilyn - - he HAD to have enjoyed it.  It wa such a privilege for those of us who had been in both the "Marching 100" and the "Hi-Cats" to be there and honor him for his gift to so very many of us.  Seeing and hearing Trent's tribute to him was so cool too!! May he rest in peace, but also as a drummer in a band and leading yet another orchestra!! wink

Hi Paul,

I was there with Barbara Ludy and  saw Rick Van Camp and Russ Andaloro, but was so sorry to learn from Sharon Mariotte that I missed you. Hope you are feeling much better!

Sadly, very sadly, a lot of our band members are playing in the band with Mr. Steele....
