Hugh was track team manager and ran Cross Country in his first two years at THS. He held positions on the Quarterly staff. In his first year, he was a homeroom representative. He was a founder of the frumious Bandersnatch satirical publication after high school.

All his life Hugh kept writing prolifically, and fighting for causes he knew were important.
